about the project

rooted in reconciliation with one's own memory of lived experiences growing up, silsile explores the vulnerability of conversation, of memory, and our attempts to retain the temporality of these moments.

in making a conscious decision to maintain a warm and monochromatic colour palette throughout the visual language of the EP, the photographs and videos produced are aimed at invoking a benign and restful atmosphere complementing the music.

moreover, in having the artist adopt a non-confrontational personality in front of the camera, maqta's gaze away from the lens ensures a disruption of command over the listener, having them interpret the music through their own memories as opposed to inundating them with the burden of information over experience.

with endearing perspectives about ambiguity, acceptance, and ephemerality taking shape in the form of silsile, the visuals aim to remain unobtrusive by lacking rigid undertones of one-dimensionality within them.

cinemagraphs

aiming to encapsulate the fleeting sounds and welcoming stills of memory, incorporating cinemagraphs as part of the EP's visual language served as an ingenious tool to further complement the tranquil nature of the music whilst also making for unique punctuation of the visuals produced.

moreover, in producing the cinemagraphs and stills across varied outdoor and indoor settings, the frames chosen across the expanse of natural environments ensured they retained a contrast between distance and attainability whilst the visuals produced indoors aimed to invigorate a subjective ambiguity through the direction of light and shadow permeating each frame.
